Duties

General Duties and responsibilities

  • Teaching academic courses within the area of specialization in accordance with quality standards and contributing to their continuous development.
  • Supervising graduation projects and postgraduate theses (Master’s and Ph.D.).
  • Providing academic advising to students and supporting them in academic and career planning.
  • Attending departmental and college council meetings upon request, and contributing effectively to their discussions and decisions.
  • Participating in internal and external committees as required.
  • Preparing and publishing scholarly research in the relevant field of specialization.
  • Offering scientific consultations and participating in relevant conferences and symposia.
  • Contributing to community service through workshops, seminars, and research studies addressing societal issues.
  • Strengthening collaboration and ties between the university and the community through academic and research activities, and by building local and international partnerships.
  • Contributing to the development of academic policies and implementing academic and research quality assurance standards.
  • Keeping abreast of the latest developments in the field to enhance skills, knowledge, and improve workflow within the unit.
  • Adhering to the university’s safety and security requirements to ensure a safe and appropriate working environment.
  • Performing any other tasks that fall within the scope of the position and are consistent with the nature of the unit’s work
  • Specific Duties and responsibilities
  • Conduct cutting-edge research: Utilize advanced Climate Change models (e.g. GCMs) to conduct innovative research in the fields of hydrology, water resources, and climate change adaptation.
  • Teach state-of-the-art courses: Develop and deliver undergraduate and postgraduate courses that integrate Climate Change models, providing students with a comprehensive understanding of the impact of climate change on hydrological systems. The medium of delivery is English
  • Carry out academic supervision: Supervise, advise, and mentor students at both the undergraduate and postgraduate levels.
  • Contribute to scholarly activities: Publish research findings in reputable refereed journals and conferences.
  • Collaborate on interdisciplinary projects: Engage in collaborative interdisciplinary research projects, leveraging water resources and climate change models to address complex environmental challenges for arid and semi-arid areas.
  • Secure external funding: Demonstrate a track record of successfully attracting external funds and consultancies related to hydrology, water resources, and climate change.
  • Contribute to community service: Actively participate in departmental and university committees and community service activities.
  • Implement the security and safety requirements established by the university to provide a suitable working environment within the department.
  • Any other tasks assigned in the field of work.

General Requirements

  1.  The applicant must be of good conduct and must not have been convicted by a final judgment of a felony or a crime involving moral turpitude or dishonesty, unless rehabilitated.
  2. The academic qualification must be obtained through full-time study; qualifications obtained through distance learning, affiliation, or blended learning will not be accepted.
  3. Priority will be given to candidates with experience in university teaching and scientific research.
  4. Applicants may apply for only one position within the college, based on their academic qualifications. If an applicant applies for more than one position, the application will be considered void.
  5. The applicant must be medically fit for service and must pass the required medical examinations.
  6. The University reserves the right to disqualify any candidate at any stage of the selection process if it is found that they do not meet the specified eligibility criteria.

Specific Requirements

Required Qualification & Experience:

  • A bachelor’s degree, M.Sc., and Ph.D.in Civil Engineering or Water Resources Engineering from a reputable university.
  • In-depth knowledge in hydrology, climate change, or related areas.
  • A good record of research, including publications in reputable refereed journals.
  • A good record of teaching experience with the ability to teach effectively at the undergraduate and postgraduate levels.
  • Participation in community and professional service activities.
  • Ability to develop and deliver effective teaching and learning materials.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, planning, and organizational skills, with the ability to work collaboratively with colleagues.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and effectively in English, both orally and in writing.
  • Ability to contribute to research activities, develop research proposals, seek research funding, and work effectively within research teams.
  • Professional licensing or certification in the relevant field would be considered an advantage.
